Districts have been collecting much data but they may not know what to do with it. This session will suggest strategies for effectively leading staff in the use of data for the continuous improvement process.
Carl Perkins Accountability and the NSSRS -- Stateroom C

The new federal legislation for the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006 has brought about changes to the performance measures reported to the federal level from Nebraska schools. In addition, the opportunity to engage with the Nebraska Student and Staff Record System as a means to collect data brings a unique opportunity for the 07-08 reporting year. This is session is designed to answer questions specific to the Career and Technical Education reporting processes for Perkins including, reporting by career clusters, using the programs fact template, and technical skill attainment, post school survey template.

Creating a "Student Unique Identifier" is the first vital step in the student data collection process. This session will cover the purpose and importance of the Unique-ID along with the process of creating, updating, searching, and troubleshooting within the application.
Upcoming Changes in Reporting Race and Ethnicity -- Stateroom F

The US Department of Education has recently published new guidance on the classification, collection and reporting of race and ethnicity data for individuals. Dave Patton, OPS and Bob Beecham NDE have both served on national panels that are developing guidelines for state and local education agencies. Come and learn how Nebraska will implement the new guidelines including what it will mean for your school district.

• in the Nebraska Education Directory and the public Staff Search web-site
• to generate curriculum reports for teachers which is used for Rule 10 and Rule 14 compliance as well as NCLB qualified
• on the State of the Schools Report (ex. average teacher salary, years experience, etc)
• in Statistics and Facts About Nebraska Schools for such things are Pupil/Teacher ratio, etc.
NEW: Staff data WILL be used in the State Aid calculation in 2008-2009.
We'll talk about some of the reporting issues and how to avoid them.

The Consolidated Data Collection (CDC) is a system designed to collect data for Federal and State reporting that is not collected through the Nebraska Student and Staff Record System (NSSRS). The CDC is a web-based system containing several collections that have multiple levels of user access. This presentation will cover how to access the Consolidated Data Collection, what data elements/collections are included as well as the approval process and submission timelines. This session will benefit data entry users as well as administrators.
Rule 18, Who Reports What? -- Stateroom C

This is a critical issue with the new federal reporting requirements. This session will discuss the implications of reporting staff and students for Rule 18, alternative schools, contracted students, preschool, etc.

Salaries represent nearly 80% of the cost of education. Salary and compensation data is used in negotiations, in legislative debates and in determining the total cost of education. Come be part of discussion of how to improve Nebraska salary data and hear about new national surveys and research projects on teacher salaries.
When is a Dropout not a Dropout: Reporting Student entries and exits? -- Ballroom I

The enrollment and exit codes in the NSSS are critical to accurate reporting of graduates, transfers, dropouts and other conditions that affect a student's enrollment status. Accurate reporting of these data could keep you out of hot water with the feds!

Participants will learn about the requirements for entering children birth to age five in NSSRS and the requirements for child observational assessment data collected online through Results Matter, including the fidelity process and reliability check.

This session will provide an overview of the Family Education Rights Privacy ACT (FERPA) and how it affects student records protocols in public schools. Questions such as what exactly is FERPA and why does it matter to me will be answered. The different circumstances in which student records containing personally identifiable information may legally be released without parent's permission will be explored as well as students and parents rights under PERPA. Requirement for documenting the release of information, amending student records and re-0disclosure will be discussed.

A Safe and Secure way to Transfer Students Records: The Nebraska eTranscript -- Ballroom I

Nebraska is on the leading edge of sending electronic transcripts from high schools to colleges. Increasingly students expect to be able to send information electronically and the eTranscript Initiative is helping to do it. The eTranscript will increase the speed and reduce the cost of sending transcripts to colleges. Come and see how this can help your district.

Improving Curriculum Data: It's about time -- Ballroom I

Nebraska has been using the same curriculum reporting system since 1975. These data are critical in the school accreditation and approval process. The new School Codes for the Exchange of Data (SCED) will be the basis of Nebraska's new curriculum reporting system. This session will report on the process and time ling for implementing the SCED in Nebraska.
Title I and English Language Learner Reporting -- Ballroom II

The Title I template will now collect data on public and nonpublic participation and services previously submitted through the Title I Annual Participation Report. This session will review the reporting of eligibility, duration and participation information on English Language Learners or Limited English Proficiency students.
