Roger D. Breed, Ed.D. Nebraska Commissioner of Education

Dr. Roger Breed has served as Nebraska's Commissioner of Education since March 2009. He is committed to improving student achievement and developing a statewide system of support for students and schools. He works closely with state and federal education stakeholders in this quest.

Prior to his appointment as Commissioner, Dr. Breed served as an educator for nearly forty years in Nebraska. Additionally, he has provided state-wide leadership as an active participant on numerous committees and boards in the areas of state standards, assessment programs, personnel selection and certification, and other significant school policy issues. He was a member of the Nebraska State Accreditation Committee, a member and past chair of the Executive Board of the Nebraska Council of School Administrators, a member and past president of the Greater Nebraska Schools Association, and a present co-chair of the Nebraska P-16 Initiative. From 1991 to 2009, Dr. Breed served as the superintendent of the Elkhorn Public Schools. In 2007, Dr. Breed was recognized by the NCSA as Nebraska's Superintendent of the Year.
